Mahan Construction was started in 1993 by Ellen and Dan Mayer, President and Vice President respectively. They began a steel fabrication shop in a rented lot in Smithtown, NY. Over the years, they have expanded into a thriving structural steel/miscellaneous metals fabricating business. In 2001, they purchased heavy industrial land in Medford, NY and have equipped their shop with two Overhead Gantry Cranes, Peddinghaus CNC Beam Line, Geka Punch Machine, Ercolina CNC Pipe Bender, Hyd-Mech Band Saw and various welding equipment in order to maintain the high level of efficiency they are known for.

In 2015, Mahan Construction was formally certified as a Woman Owned Business with the NWBOC. 

Ellen Mayer, President

         Ellen started in the steel business in 1993 when Mahan Construction first opened. She began doing clerical work for the company. As time went on, she learned different systems, like Quickbooks, and how to do Estimating. Now, Ellen works in just about every aspect of the company, responsible for: Human Resources, Accounting, Purchasing, Leeds Paperwork, Insurance Paperwork and Contracts. 

Dan Mayer, Vice President 

          Dan's experience in the Steel Business began as an Erector in 1979. As he learned the business, he was promoted to Field Foreman in 1982. After 7 years of field work, Dan moved into a shop as a Fabricator. While in the shop, he slowly took on more responsibilities on the office side of things until he was made Project Manger in 1988. Using all of the experience and knowledge that he gained throughout his years of work, he opened Mahan Construction with Ellen Mayer in 1993. Dan's wide variety of job positions in the steel industry over the years give him a vast knowledge base regarding all stages of projects. This assists him with his ability to price jobs accurately, give realistic timelines and solve a variety of problems based on his own field experience.

Marykate Mayer, Secretary/Treasurer

          Marykate began working for Mahan Construction in 2012 intermittently as a receptionist while she attended college. She assisted in incorporating the safety program that Mahan has in place currently. After officially coming on board permanently at the end of 2018, Marykate is currently learning all aspects of the business, including Estimating, Detailing, Contracts, Accounting and Human Resources. 

John Signorello, Senior Estimator

          John started as a Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals Detailer in 1970 after attending 2 Years of Architectural Technical School. In 1980, John continued detailing after being promoted to a Project Manager. In 1987, John began Estimating in addition to Detailing Structural Steel and Misc. Metals. With almost 50 years of experience, John has been an enormous asset to Mahan Construction. 

Fred Hildenbrand, Foreman

          Fred's introduction to the steel business began at Mahan Construction in 1996 when he was 19 years old. With no previous background in the industry, Fred started from the bottom and worked his way up to his position today. Fred made Foreman in 2003 due to his quick ability to learn, precision welding and critical thinking skills. Fred's attention to detail and pride in his work is apparent in every job he works on.
